This rubric will help studens to assess each other in discussing a story they have read. This assessment can be used to determine completion of an assignment, monitor comprehension of the story, and assess understanding.

Student may not ask two questions or the questions may not relate to the reading.
Discussion Participation
Excellent
Student participates throughout the discussion by asking and fully answering questions, adding to someone else's thoughts, or disagreeing with an opinion given.

Student participates in the discussion by asking and fully answering questions.
Improving
Student participates once or twice, but may not offer explanations for answers to questions.
Needs Improvement
Student may not have read the material or does not participate in the discussion.
Graphic Organizer
Excellent
Student completed the assignment before attending the discussion. Enough details are included to support a discussion of the text.
Good
Student completed the assignment before attending the discussion. Partial details are included but not enough to support a detailed discussion.
Improving
Student may have finished part of the assignment, but pays attention to the discussion before completing it.
Needs Improvement
Student may have finished part or did not do any of the assignment and works on it during the discussion.
