Attractiveness

At the intermediate level the students should be able to negotiate texts with out illustrations. However, in order to create a culture of FVR the attractiveness of the book to other students should be considered.

Text only, no illustrations. The cover is plain or resembles a textbook. No information about the book is available on the inner dust jacket or back of the book.

Cover is dull in color but contains simple illustrations or abstract geometric shapes. Any illustrations are unwieldy or unnecessary. In the case of a nonfiction book diagrams are scattered and overly complex.

Cover is illustrated in an exciting and eye catching manner. The book is easily portable and displayable. Diagrams in a non fiction book may be accurate but insufficient.
