This rubric will be used to evaluate the entries that the students have completed throughout the immigration themed unit.

Organization	Excellent -Each entry is organized -Ideas flow smoothly -The entries are in chronological order	Good -Reader can follow ideas for the most part -1 or 2 ideas seem out of place -Entries are in order	Fair -Reader has difficulty following work -Ideas may jump around and be difficult to follow at times -1 entry is out of order	Poor -Sequence of diary is completely out of order
Voice of Character	Excellent -Consistent throughout the entire diary -Develops an interesting and realistic persona -Student keeps the time period in mind- no slang used	Good -Consistent throughout most of the diary -Develops a realistic persona -1-5 slang words used	Fair -Voice is not consistent -Develops a character, but does not use keep the time period in mind in doing so -6-10 slang words used	Poor -No character developed -more than 10 slang words used
Historical Accuracy	Excellent -Information is historically accurate -Student shows a deep understanding through the use of specific examples -Makes connections	Good -2 to 3 examples in the diary are inaccurate -Student understands concepts and uses specific examples -Student does not make connections	Fair - 2 to 3 examples in the diary are inaccurate -Student grasps main concepts and uses some examples -No connections are made	Poor - 4 or more examples/ facts are historically inaccurate - Student shows some understanding of the time period, but provided minimal details
Grammar/ Spelling	Excellent -Final draft has NO misspellings or grammatical errors that interfere with the meaning	Good -Final draft has no more than 2 misspellings or grammatical errors	Fair -Final draft has 3 misspellings or grammatical errors. -AND/OR final draft contains at least one fatal flaw	Poor -Final draft has 4 or more errors -AND/OR final draft contains two or more fatal flaws
