Colonial Town Covenant Project
Scenario: The year is 1635. You are part of a group of English colonists that has just received permission from the Massachusetts General Court to establish a new town. As you will discover, the creation of a new town requires much planning. Everything from by-laws to land ownership must be put in writing before a house, road or fence can be built. The written document outlining the plan for a new town is called a covenant. Below you will find General Court’s requirements for drafting a colonial town covenant.
