Characterization	Excellent The character(s) is/are clearly developed using most or all of the characterization techniques.	Good The character(s) is/are developed with some different techniques.	Fair The character(s) is/are somewhat developed but still seem two-dimensional.	Needs Improvement The character(s) is/are barely developed.
Setting	Excellent Use of setting (time and place) is clear and effective. The map is used effectively.	Good Use of setting is somewhat clear, at times is difficult for reader to clearly identify setting.	Fair Use of setting is unclear, it is difficult for the reader to identify setting in the story.	Needs Improvement No use of setting is present in the short story.
Plot	Excellent Story (or chapter or scene) uses most of the plotting techniques.	Good Story uses various plotting techniques.	Fair Story uses few plotting techniques.	Needs Improvement Little use of plotting techniques.
