Newspaper Project 
The students were asked to create a newspaper article about the causes of the Revolutionary War. This includes the British Acts and taxes, the Boston Tea Party, and Boston Massacre. They are to write the article as if they were there, and to are to share their reactions and feelings.

The writer makes no or only a token effort to reference ideas in the lesson. Ideas in the text are inaccurately summarized. Ideas in the text may be applied to other bodies of knowledge, but these connections aren’t clearly formed or explained.
Fair

The writer makes an effort to identify key ideas relevant to the question prompt, but the ideas are not as well summarized or applied to other bodies of knowledge.
Good

The writer is able to summarize most of the important ideas in the lesson that are relevant to the question prompt. The response attempts to make connections between the ideas in the text and other bodies of knowledge, although these connections may be less original and more a restatement of ideas discussed in class.
Excellent

The response is detailed and relevant to the issues raised by the prompt. The response connects the ideas in the lesson to other areas of understanding (i.e., ideas generated in class discussion, personal experience, other coursework, and/or contemporary events).
Participation

Poor

The student makes none, to very little attempt to participate in any parts of the lesson. The work reflects the amount of time put in, which is none.
Fair

The student makes some attempt to participate, but is not fully engaged. Student is distracted, or not working. Lack of attention given.
Good

The student participates and engages in lesson, but sometimes is distracted. Attention lost few times.
Excellent

The student fully participates and engages in the lesson. Every part of the lesson is complete and well thought out. The finished project goes above standards.
Grammar

Poor

The writing style and/or level of mechanical correctness may significantly hinder the effective communication of ideas.
Fair

The writing may have one or two problems in effectively communicating its ideas without some inferences on the reader’s part. Lastly, some errors may make the communication of ideas problematic.
Good

The writing is generally clear. There may be some small errors in correctness, but they do not hinder the overall effective communication of the writer’s ideas.
Excellent

The writing is clear and error free. Punctuation, structure, and readability are all accompanied for.
