Format Composition is written in four parts (SATB) in a major or minor key with up to three sharps or flats, includes key signature, time signature, common chord modulation, double bar line at end, and roman numeral analysis below the composition. Proficient Student is able to write key signature, time signature, barlines, and figured bass properly with few or minor errors.	Adequate Student is able to write key signature, time signature, barlines, and figured bass with some errors. Composition Melody includes a variety of steps and leaps using only notes in the key and proper tonic and dominant placement. Composition uses up to 3 secondary chords. Smooth voice leading is used.	Excellent Student is able to compose a melody with a variety of steps and leaps, and proper tonic and dominant placement. Composition ends on a tonic chord.	Proficient Student is able to compose a melody with a variety of steps and leaps, a variety of note values, and proper tonic and dominant placement with few or minor errors. Composition ends on a tonic chord.	Adequate Student is able to compose a melody with a variety of steps and leaps, a variety of note values, and proper tonic and dominant placement with some errors. Composition ends on a tonic chord.	Poor Student is not able to compose a melody with a variety of steps and leaps, a variety of note values, and proper tonic and dominant placement.
Rhythm Rhythm patterns include a variety of note values and each bar has 4 counts.	Excellent Student is able to write rhythm patterns using a variety of note values with the appropriate number of beats in every measure.	Proficient Student is able to write rhythm patterns using a variety of note values and 4 beats per every measure with few or minor errors.	Adequate Student is able to write rhythm patterns using a variety of note values and 4 beats per every measure with some errors. Note writing All notes, stems, and beams are written correctly.	Excellent Student is able to write all notes, stems, and beams correctly. Variation 1 Variation 1 contains the same chord progression but with added passing, neighbor and other NCTs used properly	Excellent Student's composition contains at least 4 Passing tones, 4 neighbor tones, 2 other types of NCTs used within at least 3 voices.
