Poet Study Poetry Research Project You will be assigned a poet to research. You will be come familiar with the poet by research the biographical information and analyzing 3 of his/her poems. Research Student conducts appropriate biographical research. Research includes information about the poet's birth, significant life events, career path and inspirations.	Excellent Student conducted thorough research and presented all required facts about the assigned poet.	Good Student conducted research and presented most of the required facts about the assigned poet.	Poor Student conducted research and presented only a few or none of the required facts about the poet.
Poetry Analysis Student selects 3 of the poet's works to analyze.	Excellent Student selected 3 poems and provided an in depth analysis and personal commentary. The analysis appropriately discusses the poet devices covered in class.	Good Student selected 3 poems and attempted to provide an analysis and personal commentary. The analysis mentions one or two poetic devices covered in class.	Poor Student selected 3 or fewer poems. The analysis or personal commentary is weak or missing.
Mechanics Students uses formal language and punctuation in their essay.	Excellent There are 0-1 spelling, capitalization, or grammatical errors.	Good There are 2-3 spelling, punctuation, or capitalization errors.	Poor There are 4 or more errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation.
Works Cited Page is formatted using MLA format.	Excellent Student has correctly cited all references. There are a mininum of three references presented.
