Poetry Portfolio Rubric 
Students will collect and display all the works of poetry they have completed in the unit in a nice and visually appealing portfolio.

The student employs the many different forms of poetry studied in this class and crafts them with creative integrity and skill.

Failing

Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal or unoriginal.
Average

The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.
Passing

Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.
Target

Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Completion of assignments

All daily journal assignments are completed.

Failing

Three or more journal assignments are missing from the portfolio.
Average

Two journal assignments are missing from the portfolio.
Passing

One journal assignment is missing from the portfolio.
Target

All journal assignments are completed on time.
Attractiveness

The student displays their work in a way that is appealing and visually attractive.

Failing

The poems and portfolio are messy or disorganized. Images are not related and does not enhance the project.
Average

The poems and portfolio show some thoughtfulness in their presentation. Images were not related but were used to enhance the presentation of the project.
Passing

The poems and portfolio are attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness and 1-2 images are not related to the poems but overall presentation is good.
Target

The portfolio is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness. All images used are related to the poems and enhances the overall presentation of the portfolio.
Grammar & Punctuation

The student demonstrates understanding and control of the rules of the English language, realizing that usage involves the appropriate application of conventions and grammar in both written and spoken formats.

Failing

There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors.
Average

The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction or grammar errors.
Passing

Some spelling, diction or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.
Target

Proper use of modern English spelling, diction and grammar are employed consistently throughout portfolio.
