Plot	Excellent The story is extremely developed and thorough without being wordy. The conflict is explored; rising action, climax, and some type of resolution is given.	Good The story is very developed and thorough without being explored. The conflict is somewhat explored; plot is missing a major component (rising action, climax, or resolution).	Fair The story is somewhat developed or rambling and needlessly wordy OR not detailed enough. Story is missing a conflict.	Poor The story is undeveloped or very poorly worded.
Setting	Excellent Use of setting is clear. Reader able to distinguish when a change of setting is present or has occurred.	Good Use of setting is somewhat clear, at times is difficult for reader to clearly identify setting.	Fair Use of setting is unclear, it is difficult for the reader to identify setting in the story.	Poor No use of setting is present in the short story. It is clearly undetermined.
Point of View	Excellent Point of view is clear, use of first person, third person limited or omniscient easily detected by the reader.	Good Point of view somewhat clear (narration or pronouns make it confusing at times)	Fair Point of view is unclear at times, shifts in dialogue (first or third) needlessly or without transition.
