Reading Journal Scoring rubric for the student's weekly reading responses.
	Exceeding 4 pts	Meeting 3 pts	Approaching 2 pts	Below 1 pts
Weekly Responses Responses are recorded. Students must complete 1 hour of reading per week.	Exceeding Responses are recorded on time and dated correctly.	Meeting Responses are recorded on time and dated correctly more than 80% of the time.	Approaching Responses are not recorded on time or dated correctly (less than 50% of the time).	Below Reading time does not add up to 1 hours/week.
Completion Journal entry has at least one paragraph consisting of 3-5 sentences. A full summary of the main events of the passage is given.	Exceeding Journal entry is completed with a paragraph of 5 complete sentences or more. A quality summary of the events of the passage is given.	Meeting Journal entry has lthan 3-5 complete sentences in a paragraph. An adequate summary of the events of the passage is given.	Approaching Journal entry has 3 complete sentences or less. A poor summary is given.	Below Journal response has not been completed at all.
Response Quality Responses are fully developed and on topic.	Exceeding Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic.	Meeting Responses are acceptably developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Approaching Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic.	Below Response is critically underdeveloped and lacking in the key areas of basic English.
Connections Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least once each week.	Exceeding Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 75% of the time.	Meeting Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 50% of the time.	Approaching Student attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection at least 25% of the time.	Below Student makes no attempts to make a text-to-self, text-to-text, or text-to-world connection.
