Pre-Writing A documentation of the planning stage of writing. Shows idea formulation and organization.	Unscorable Pre-Write is missing or off-topic.	Poor Pre-Write is present, and on topic, but shows little in the way of effort. Topic has not been explored enough with support details and has no organizational categories of information for the five paragraphs.	Fair Pre-Write is present and shows some effort. The topic has enough supporting details, but shows no helpful means of organizing the information into categories for the five different paragraphs.	Good The Pre-Write is present, is rich with details that are organized into categories of information. The pre-write is recognizable as either a freewrite, a chart, a brainstorm list, an outline, or a cluster.
First Rough Draft A first attempt to fully write out information and/or explanation in an organized, presentable manner.	Unscorable Rough Draft is missing or off-topic.	Poor Rough draft is poorly organized, with no clear introduction and/or conclusion. The supporting details are not logically located close to other information on the same subtopic. the writer may get off topic occasionally.	Fair Rough Draft is mostly organized and has at least an introduction and a body. Some of the indentations may be missing or one or two pieces of information out of order. The writer is on topic.	Good The rough draft is well organized. All paragraphs are clearly either indented or blocked. An introduction and a conclusion are both recognizable. Body paragraphs are present and are developed uniformly. The writer stays on topic throughout.
Revision & Editing Looking at the rough draft with the eyes of a reader and evaluator in order to improve clarity, organization, conciseness, and correctness.	Unscorable Both self and peer editing are missing, illegible, or extremely sparce.	Poor Some attempt to review and correct the essay is present, but is not helpful. Most errors are still undetected or are inaccurate. No contrasting color ink was used to differentiate editing from corrections made while writing.	Fair Review and correction are evident by either peer or the writer, but not both. Ink of a contrasting color was used to edit and comment in order to make suggestions for further improvement noticeable. Many errors are indicated and corrected accurately.	Good Review and correction are evident by both writer and at least one peer. Ink of a contrasting color is used for corrections. Most errors are indicated and corrected accurately.
Final Draft A publishable draft, it is the product of much editing, reviewing, and rewriting.	Unscorable Final draft is missing or is simply a neat, but otherwise unimproved copy of the rough draft.	Poor Final draft has been rewritten, but still contains many uncorrected errors in the targeted areas of conventions of writing and organization. Much improvement is needed in presentation.	Fair Final draft has been rewritten to eliminate many of the errors in the targeted areas of conventions of writing and of organization. The paper is fairly well presented in terms of neatness and legibility.	Good Final draft is neat and legible. It has followed the prescribed organizational pattern and has most of the targeted conventions of writing and organization corrected from the rough draft.
