Gyotaku Print Making Composition
Students will complete a minimum of 5 prints. Compositions should include variety, balance, and unity. Embellishments and background should be considered.

Print Making
Poor
There are major areas of lacking craftsmanship.
Fair
There are several areas where craftsmanship is lacking in the printmaking process.
Good
Their is some spill over and minor areas where prints were lacking in crisp line, texture, and craftsmanship.
Excellent
The prints show evidence of care and craftsmanship. Lines and textures are crisp and carefully applies.
Embelishments
Poor
The student failed to add embellishments.
Fair
Some embellishments were added, but many several fish are lacking in detail.
Good
Embellishments were added, but additional layers were needed to enhance the details within the fish.
Excellent
The embellishments go above and beyond to show detail and add depth and visual interest to the eyes, fins, and scales of ALL fish. Multiple layers of colored pencil, acrylic, or watercolor added interesting effects and interest to the prints.
Background
Poor
There is no additional thought regarding the background.
Fair
Some thought given to the background. However, some choices fail to add to the overall success of the piece.
Good
The student gave some thought to their background.
Excellent
The student intentionally thought about their background and the details used within. The background complements the composition without detracting from the fish.
Composition/Unity
Poor
There was no care or thought given in the use of elements or principles to create a visually strong composition.
Fair
Some elements and principles work together. However, the final piece is lacking in strong unity or composition.
Good
Most elements and principles work together to create a visually pleasing final product.
Excellent
All elements and principles work together to create an exceptional final product with variety, balance, and unity.
