iRubric: Ballad Poetry Rubric

Poems appear to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas are unoriginal. Ballad is missing two or more story elements OR does not focus on the required theme (your knight's heroic actions/victory)

Most of the poem is creative, but appears to be rushed. This is evident in the poet's redundancy or use of cliches. One story element is missing or incomplete, but poem DOES attempt to tell the story of your knight's heroism.

Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written. All story elements are present and the poem tells the story of your knight's heroism.

Poem is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and uniquely conveyed their ideas and emotions. Poem tells a complete and coherent story about your knight's heroism.

The poem is not written in its proper form. Has several mistakes. Doesn't follow rules of Ballad writing. Poem is 4 or fewer lines long

The poem is somewhat written in its proper form. Doesn't fully follow the rhyme scheme of a ballad AND the sentences are too long/short- rhythm seems off. Poem is 5-6 lines in length

The poem is written in its proper forms with a few mistakes. Doesn't fully follow either format of a ballad. Poem contains only 7 lines

The poem is complete and follows its intended form of a ballad. Poem has a MINIMUM of EIGHT lines and either follows an AABB rhyme scheme or an ABCB rhyme scheme.
