The story is extremely developed and thorough without being verbose. It is clear the dramatic plot structure was used. The character is clearly portrayed in some way. The character is realistic and developed. Poems utilize realized themes and extremely clear and poignant tone.

27-30 points

The story is very developed and thorough without being verbose. The characters are somewhat developed.The character is basically developed in some way. The character is somewhat realistic, but inconsistent. Traits are somewhat developed. Poems utilize a theme and tone but both are not as developed as in the excellent category.
25-26 points

The story is somewhat developed or rambling and verbose. There is some development of the characters.The character is barely developed. Poems attempt to use a decisive tone and theme but it is unclear to the reader.

23-24 points

The story is undeveloped or extremely verbose. There is no character development. Minimal or no effort is made to create a theme and/ or tone for poems.

minimum 750 words Times New Roman font. Unique title is present. Only one or two errors in grammar and mechanics. 45 lines of poetry

14-15 points

minimum length is met, double-spaced in 12-point, Times New Roman font. Title is present, but may not be unique. Some errors in grammar and mechanics. 45 lines if poetry

12-13

7-8 points

Minimum length is almost met, No title. Many errors in grammar and mechanics. nearly 45 lines of poetry

10-11 points

minimum length is not met. A vast amount of errors in grammar and mechanics.

9 points and below

Creative writing techniques such as imaginative comparisons, strong diction, poetic meter and rhythm, allusion, and figurative language are present and are executed in a high-level, sophisticated manner.

18-20 points

Creative writing techniques such as imaginative comparisons, strong diction, poetic meter and rhythm, allusion, and figurative language are present and are executed in an appropriate manner for student's grade level.

16-17 points

Little use of creative writing techniques are employed and the writing is not mature.


15 points

No evidence of creative writing techniques.
