Composition and Craftsmanship

How the objects are composed in the space provided. Neatness and cleanliness of drawing.

Excellent

Composition is well planned and the object fits the space provided. The drawing is outlined clean and crisp with no smudge marks or wrinkles in paper. Table line is in drawn straight in background.
Meets Expectation

The composition shows some thought however there is a disproportionate amount of leftover space in the material provided (placed too high or too low, off centered). The drawing is outlined but not clean, there are eraser marks and/or smudges. Table line is in background but not straight.
Needs Improvement

There is little or no thought in the layout of the design. All objects are heavily weighted in one corner and do not stretch out into the space provided. Drawing is sketchy and messy. Many marks/smudges and paper is wrinkled. No Table line, drawing is just floating on the paper.
Observation & accuracy

The artist observed the objects and broke down into simple shapes. Students used "sighting" technique to achieve correct proportions. The drawing reveals what they see and not what they know, including many details. There is a strong likeness to the subject.

Excellent

Their is a continuous, loose, line which clearly reflects the students' observation of the subject. The line is not sketched or stiff. There is a 3-d quality to the drawing. Drawing is 100% proportionate to actual objects. All details of objects are included.
Meets Expectation

There is a good amount of detail and observation however, the drawing is not in proportion. Areas of drawing what they know and not what they see.
Needs Improvement

There is little observational detail in the work. The objects are simple and lack contour line quality. The subject appears flat and lacks a 3-d quality. Too muck of drawing what they know and not what they see.
Time Management and Effort

Student was serious, quiet and focused throughout the drawing sessions. Student worked bell to bell and put forth max effort, utilizing teacher suggestions.

Excellent

Student worked from bell to bell. Teacher suggestions are applied, and improvements are apparent in the drawing.
Meets Expectation

Student worked from bell to bell most of the time. Only some teacher suggestions are applied but effort is evident.
Needs Improvement

Behavior is distracting, lack of focus. Student put little to no effort into project and wasted time during the period. Teacher advice is ignored.
