Science Fair: Model/ Research Grades 3-5

Students create a science model. The model should be based on a scientific concept of the student's choosing. The model should be accompanied by a research paper.

Exceeds Expectation Contains more than adequate information relevant to the model and includes a bibliography citing at least two research references used in planning the model.
Science Concepts 4 pts	Below Expectation Model does not relate to a particular science concept.	Approaching Expectation Model makes a particular science concept easier to understand, define, quantify, visualize, or simulate, but a there may be errors or omissions.	Meets Expectation Model clearly represents scientific concepts and is scientifically correct, making the concept easier to quantify, visualize or simulate.	Exceeds Expectation Model clearly represents scientific concepts and is scientifically correct, making the concept easier to quantify, visualize or simulate in a novel or creative way.
Construction 4 pts	Below Expectation The model is poorly constructed.	Approaching Expectation The model is constructed but uses materials that are not well chosen.	Meets Expectation The model is carefully constructed with materials but does not showcase student's creativity.	Exceeds Expectation The model is carefully constructed with materials that showcase student's creativity and are appropriate.
Diagram 4 pts	Below Expectation Model is not accompanied by a diagram.	Approaching Expectation Model is accompanied by a diagram but may contain errors.	Meets Expectation Model is accompanied by a diagram. However, parts of the diagram are not labeled and cannot be used as a key to better understand the model/science concept.
