Student is merely summarizing.

Student is borderline summarizing the story. There is no claim statement to start.

Student is at the beginning stage of learning how to analyze content. The have declarative statements that focus on predicting and analyzing a character or social group in the story, but the sentences tend to be choppy and incomplete in thoughts.

Student analysis content for a particular character or prediction as to why the greasers and socs do not get along in the story, The Outsiders, is above average. This means that the student is able to build his/her argument based on claim statement made at the beginning of the paragraph. The student makes guesses or predictions as to why a character acts a certain way in the story using context clues.

Student has 5 or more grammar/mechanical mistakes throughout.

Student has 3-4 grammar/mechanical mistakes throughout.

Student has 1-2 grammar/mechanical mistakes throughout.

Student uses correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling with no mistakes.
