Fair Lacks respect for partner by not always listening intently and participating in conversation. Does not build upon partners thoughts and ideas. Read Aloud	Excellent Sits correctly and quietly. Listens to teacher read and raises hand to answer questions asked throughout the story. Participates in SMART Board interaction. Independent Reading	Excellent Student is able to finish the passage and answer the question on the worksheet because they are reading quietly and making notes on their own.	Good Student is able to finish the passage and answer the question on the worksheet, but is distracting other students around them.	Fair Student is able to finish the passage, but not fully answer the question on the worksheet due to slow reading or being a distraction to others.	Poor Student is not able to finish the worksheet completely because of slow reading or being a distraction to others.
Close Reading	Excellent Uses 5 or more different close reading annotations throughout the entire passage.	Good Uses 4-5 close reading annotations throughout the entire passage, but the student does not use a large variety of annotations.	Fair Uses 2-3 close reading annotations throughout the entire passage, but does not use a variety of annotations.	Poor Uses 2 or less close reading annotations which are both the same.
Question Response	Excellent Response shows full understanding of the passage and why Rosie did not tell the truth.	Good Response shows a good amount of understanding, but is missing one piece of information.	Fair Response shows little amount of understanding, but includes some details from the passage.	Poor Response simply restates an irrelevant piece of information from the story, showing no understanding.
