	Exceeds 25 pts	Satisfaction 20 pts	Needs Improvement 15 pts
Understanding	Exceeds Student completely understands the meaning of the question. Students relay the deeper meaning or theme of connected text and author's point of view.	Satisfaction Students understand and connect a theme to the text that may not necessarily be the author's purpose.	Needs Improvement Students cannot find any general themes related to the text.
Ideas	Exceeds Student connects the themes behind the question to their own personal life or something else they read.	Satisfaction	Needs Improvement Student is unable to make any connections between the text or theme to their own life or other text.
Length	Exceeds Student meets the requirement of length.	Satisfaction	Needs Improvement Student does not meet the required length.
Grammar	Exceeds Student has written in complete sentences and paragraph form. There a minimal grammatical errors.	Satisfaction Student has written in complete sentences and paragraph form. There are few grammatical errors.	Needs Improvement Student has written in incomplete sentences and grammatical errors impact the meaning of the answer.
