Basic Life Support in Adults

Students will assess a victim in need of Basic Life Support (CPR and Rescue Breathing), and then perform the proper intervention.

Check scene for safety 10 pts	Poor Student does not check the scene for safety.	Fair Has to be prompted to check the scene for safety.	Good Checks scene for safety successfully.
Check responsiveness and breathing 10 pts	Poor Student doesn't check for responsiveness and breathing (doesn't tap and shout; doesn't look, listen, and feel).	Fair Needs prompting to check for responsiveness OR breathing, or does so incorrectly.	Good Checks for responsiveness AND breathing without prompting, and does so correctly.
Activate emergency response 10 pts	Poor Student forgets to call for help	Fair Needs prompting to call for help	Good Calls for help/ directly instructs someone to call for help
Check pulse 10 pts	Poor Student forgets to check for a pulse,	Fair Needs prompting to check the pulse. Checks for less than 10 seconds, or checks incorrectly.	Good Correctly checks the pulse on the patients carotid artery.

Rescue breathing 10 pts	Poor Student is unable to perform rescue breathing.	Fair Breathing is done incorrectly (too fast, too slow, too much air, not enough air).	Good Successfully performs rescue breaths, 1 every 5-6 seconds, for 1 second each.
Verbal response 10 pts Student will answer questions regarding differences between 1 and 2 rescuers, and infant CPR.	Poor Student is unable to answer questions or perform additional skills.	Fair Answers questions with partial accuracy.	Good Successfully satisfies questions posed regarding variations in CPR methods for 1 and 2 rescuers, and for infant CPR.
