Meaning and Originality	Exemplary(EU) Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into his/her words and uniquely conveyed his/her ideas and emotions.	Accomplished(Meeting) Poems are thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.	Developing(Beginning) Most of the poems are creative but appear to be rushed. This is evident in the poet being repetitive.	Beginning(Not Yet) Poems appear to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive, and ideas are unoriginal.
Sensory Details	Exemplary(EU) Vivid, detailed images and intensely felt emotion make the poems come alive.	Accomplished(Meeting) Clear sensory images are used to portray ideas or emotions.	Developing(Beginning) Some use of image, idea, or emotion.	Beginning(Not Yet) Difficult to visualize image or emotion.
Form	Exemplary(EU) The poems are complete and follow the intended forms. For example: Haiku and Diamante poems are properly written. All brainstorming is complete.	Accomplished(Meeting) The poems are written in proper form with a few mistakes. Most brainstorming is complete.	Developing(Beginning) The poems are somewhat written in proper form. Some brainstorming is completed.	Beginning(Not Yet) The poems are not written in proper form. No evidence of brainstorming.
Grammar	Exemplary(EU) Proper use of English spelling and grammar is used consistently throughout each poem. All proper punctuation is utilized when necessary.	Accomplished(Meeting) A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident but do not diminish the meaning of the poem. Punctuation is utilized when necessary.	Developing(Beginning) The poet's intended meaning is confused by several spelling or grammar errors. Punctuation may be misused.	Beginning(Not Yet) There are numerous spelling or grammar errors making the poems difficult to understand. Punctuation is used incorrectly.
