Math Word Problems
	4 pts	3 pts	2 pts	1 pts
Equation is prepared	4 4 The equation is copied down correctly	3 3 The equation is copied down with one error.	2 2 The correct equation is copied down but with two or more errors.	1 1 An equation is not copied down or the wrong equation is copied down.
Values replace variables	4 4 All the values are plugged into the equation for the correct variables. Variables are kept for the unknowns.	3 3 Two of the values are plugged into the correct variable locations.	2 2 One of the values is plugged-in to the correct variable.	1 1 Values are not plugged into the equation or are plugged in for all the wrong variables.
Math and algebra	4 4 Minor arithmetic errors only.	3 3 variables or values are multipled and divided correctly but the distance is not squared correctly.	2 2 Major arithmetic errors in operating on numbers written in scientific notation indicate a misunderstanding of the concepts of exponents.	1 1 Arithmetic or algebra operations are performed which do not match the equation.
