The dancer knows the movement extremely well. Dancer is confident and does not need to follow anyone else. Dancer has a great sense of timing and direction.

Demonstrates excellent knowledge of choreography. Is completely rhythmically accurate.

Beginning

The dancer did not work well with the group. There was a lot of sitting around and talking and there was little contribution made to plan the moves.
Developing

The dancer worked well within the group. He/she was a contributing member of the group and time was used effectively.
Proficient

The dancer helped the group use their time with good efficiency. The dancer was positive, kind and enthusiastic.
Exemplary

The dancer helped the individual members, and made every effort to use all the class time efficiently. The dancer worked well with others throughout the process.

Dancer attempts to keep a rhythm, but does not follow the tempo or the beat.

Dancer shows a good understanding of tempo and beat and stays on the rhythm throughout the dance.

Dancer shoes a complete understanding of tempo and beat and stays on rhythm throughout the dance.
Technical Skills

Beginning

Basic understanding of technique (footwork, quality of movement, body positions) demonstrated in performance. Several technical errors are made while performing.
Developing

Dance performed with attention to most details of technique and patterns, but hasn't attained proficiency in African dance style yet. Some technical errors.
Proficient

Dance performed with attention to details of technique and patters, has attained proficiency in African dance style.
Exemplary

Dance performed with great attention to quality of movement, body position, patterns. Also demonstrates an excellent understanding of African Dance style.

Beginning

Student had minimal research in the three categories. (Historical, Stylistic, and Cultural)

Performance

Beginning

Students were not very prepared to perform their oral presentation, and dance performance. Not all group members participated. There was a lack of visuals.
Developing

Each students performed a part of the oral presentation and most students were performing the dance with energy and excitement. There was some visuals.
Proficient

Most of the student's group was prepared to present the oral presentation. Most students were prepared and danced with high energy and was able to convey some feeling in dance. Visuals in the oral presentation were good.
Exemplary

All students performed the oral presentation with great detail and had good visuals.l and knew the material. The dance was performed with great accuracy and great enthusiasm and portrayed maximum feeling.
