Poetry Project and Personal Narrative 
Poetry Project This project is the final assessment in the unit of Poetry. This is a three week task wherein students compile different poems to analyze personal song, favorite class, unlike class and through different figurative language, different sentence structure and conjunctive adverb.

Originality

The student employs a variety of writing genres to demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of significant ideas in selected literary works. The student composes essays, narratives, poems, or technical documents.

Beginning

Work appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repetitive and ideas seem cliched, impersonal or unoriginal.
Developing

The poems are creative, but don't demonstrate a variety of approaches.
Established

Poems are creative and thoughtful. They are carefully written, but development or craft could go further.
Excelling

Poems are creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.
Literary Devices

The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (i.e., examples of diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism) in a variety of texts representative of different genres

Beginning

The poems did not include any literary devices such as imagery, sound effects and rhyming pattern.
Developing

The poems use some literary devices.
Established

The poems incorprate several literary devices which demonstrate creativity.
Excelling

The portoflio demonstrates varied and appropriate application of literary devices discussed in class.
Requirements

The student practices both timed and process writing and, when applicable, uses the writing process to develop, revise, and evaluate writing.

90% of the portfolio doesn't not meet the criteria required for the project.
Developing

The portfolio is missing most of the required content or student didn't follow the required format.
Established

The portfolio is missing 1-2 of the required content or format.
Excelling

The portfolio meets 100% of the required content and format.
Neatness

Beginning

The project is not presentable. The text has a lot of erasures, sheets are creased and project was not on a folder.
Developing

The project has more than 3 erasures, more than half of the sheets are creased but submitted on a folder.
Established

The project has 1-2 erasures or some sheets are creased but was submitted in a folder.
Excelling

The portfolio was submitted in a folder and project is free from any erasures and sheets are not creased.
Grammar & Punctuation

The student demonstrates understanding and control of the rules of the English language, realizing that usage involves the appropriate application of conventions and grammar in both written and spoken formats.

Beginning

There are numerous spelling, diction, or grammar errors.
Developing

The poet's intended meaning is muddled by some spelling, diction or grammar errors.
Established

Some spelling, diction or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish meaning.
Excelling

Proper use of modern English spelling, diction and grammar are employed consistently throughout portfolio.
