The poem meets expectations in terms of topic and message but is weak in the use of figurative language or vocabulary.

The poem is not well crafted. Very concrete images are used rather than rich figurative language, and the structure does not match the overall message or style.

The poem's main idea may not be clear until the end or is executed inconsistently.

Movement & Voice

Good 20-17 points

The poet’s body movement, facial expressions, and gestures are consistent with and enhance the ideas and mood of the poem. The poet speaks clearly, projects his/her voice, and has memorized his/her poem.
Fair 16.5-14.5

The physical interpretation is inconsistent. Some parts may be more well expressed than others. The poet may be difficult to hear at times, but overall voice quality is good. The entire poem may not be memorized.
Poor 14-12

There is little or no physical interpretation of the poem. Poet stands still rather than using body or facial expressions. The poet is consistently difficult to hear. There may be some mumbling or obvious points where the poet is reading the written poem.
Mood & Tone

Good 20-17 points

The poet conveys energy and emotion that is consistent with and enhances the ideas and mood of the poem.
Fair 16.5-14.5

The poet conveys energy and emotion, but the mood and tone of the poem are not consistent with the vocals.
Poor 14-12

The poet reads in a monotone manner; little energy is demonstrated or consistently doesn't match the tone of the poem.
