Independent-Reading: Literary Book Review Rubric

Students read a book and review the book using persuasive language to indicate the reader's opinion about the book. The reviewer summarises the book and recommends or does not recommend this book to another student. Scholar also rates the book on a scale of 1-5 and provides details to support his/her rating.

PLOT SUMMARY	Excellent - Exceeds Summarises the basic plot clearly without spoilers, and creates an opinion about the book. * Indicates tone or mood of story. *Clear text to self connection.	Adequate - Meets Plot summary is present and creates an opinion about the book. *Text to self connection is unclear or absent.	Not yet Plot summary is unclear/confusing or overly simple, and fail to create an opinion about the book. *Text to self connection absent.
CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION	Excellent - Exceeds Conclusion completes the review leaving the reader with a clear opinion about the book. Reviewer: * provides overall likes or dislikes about the book with clear reasons. makes an overall recommendation on whether to read the book. suggests who would like this book. * rates the book and explains the rating.
