Introduction/Conclusion 2 pts	Excellent 1st paraghraph: includes title of the book, clearly states main idea including who/what the story is about and what about them. Final paragraph sums up the book report and includes your opinion of the book.	Good 1st paragraph: includes the book title with a brief description. Final paragraph is brief, includes vague opinion.	Poor 1st paragraph: no title, minimal description, too much plot. Final paragraph is too short or nonexistent.	Must do Over No attempt.
Characterization 5 pts	Excellent Main characters are clearly named and a brief character description is included for each main character. Point of view is clearly described.	Good Main characters are mentioned with plot elements. Point of view is mentioned, but unclear.	Poor Characters are named (not main). Point of view is not discussed.	Must do Over No attempt.
Setting 5 pts	Excellent Setting is clearly described with the time the story takes place and where it takes place is clearly described. Includes 4-5 examples of mood and imagery.	Good Setting, when and where is mentioned with little details. Includes 2-3 examples of mood and imagery.	Poor Setting is briefly mentioned, either where or when it takes place, but not both. Includes 1-2 examples of mood and imagery.	Must do Over No attempt.
Elements of Plot 5 pts	Excellent Conflict is clearly stated and summarized. 3 specific major events are clearly listed and described. Solution to the problem is described concisely.	Good Problem is briefly described with 3 major events not specifically described. Solution is present.	Poor Problem and Solution are described with minimal details. Difficulty providing information regarding the problem and solution.	Must do Over No attempt.
Grammar/Mechanics 1 pts	Excellent Book report has been edited and the final copy contains very few errors in puntuation, spelling, and grammar.	Good Book report contains 5-10 errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar.	Poor Book report contains between 10-15 errors in punctuation, spelling, and grammar. More effort could have been put into proofreading.	Must do Over No attempt. Book report is difficult to read and doesn't appear to be proofread very carefully or not at all.
Structure 1 pts	Excellent Clearly followed outline format. Each paragraph is indented and seperated clearly. Presents with proper sentence structure. All topics are present.	Good Attempted to follow outline format. Paragraphs are indented. Good sentence structure. Topics may be out of order.	Poor No indentation. Format is not followed. Poor sentence structure.	Must do Over No attempt.
Neatness 1 pts	Excellent Report is clearly and neatly typed.	Good Report is neatly typed with little to no mistakes on format.	Poor Report is typed, but in incorrect format and not easy to follow.	Must do Over No attempt.
