This rubric will allow me to gauge students ability to predict, comprehend, and retell the story, as well as fluency.

	Satisfactory 1 pts	Good 2 pts	Very Good 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Prediction	Satisfactory Student shows little to no ability to predict what story will be about.	Good Student provides some ideas about what may occur in the story.	Very Good Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story.	Excellent Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story and gives rich detail, supported by information they have already gathered from the book (pictures, title, etc.).
Comprehension	Satisfactory Student shows little to no understanding of what story was about when questioned.	Good Student shows some understanding of what story was about when questioned.	Very Good Student is able to answer questions about book sufficiently.	Excellent Student gives detailed answers to questions about story, supported by evidence in the story (pictures, title, etc.).
Retell	Satisfactory Student can retell little to no parts of the story.	Good Student can retell a basic outline of the story.	Very Good Student can retell story with sufficient detail.	Excellent Student can retell story with rich detail, supported by evidence in the story (pictures, title, etc.).
Fluency	Satisfactory Student reads haltingly and frequently has difficulty decoding words.	Good Student reads slowly, stopping frequently to decode words.	Very Good Student reads story at a good pace with few errors.	Excellent Student reads story fluently with no pauses and no decoding difficulties.
