Vocabulary Writing Rubric 
Students will write a short story using their vocabulary words and draw a picture to accompany their story (using a visual depiction of their vocabulary words).

Exemplary

All of the vocabulary words were used in the story accurately and in the proper form or part of speech.
Vocabulary in Context

Students uses vocabulary words in the appropriate context of the sentence and provides details that support understanding of the words.

Unacceptable

Student lists voc. words in the sentence providing little details and demonstrating little understanding of the words in the context, causing confusion for the reader.
Needs Improvement

Student lists voc. words in the sentence and provides little details surrounding the vocabulary words.
Meets Standard

Student uses the vocabulary words in the context. Student provides details to support the sentence. Little confusion is demonstrated in the use of 1 or 2 words.
Exemplary

Student uses the vocabulary words in the context. Student provides details to support the sentence and demonstrates understanding of all words.
Paragraph Parameters

Minimum of 1-2 paragraphs with at least three sentences each.

There are 1-2 paragraphs with less than 4 sentences.
Meets Standard

There are 1-2 paragraphs 4-5 sentences.
Exemplary

There are 1-2 paragraphs with more than 6 sentences.
Spelling

High frequency words are spelled correctly

Multiple spelling errors make the story impossible to understand.
And/Or Not using pronouns and verb endings accurately.
Needs Improvement

There are multiple spelling errors, however the story is still understood with some difficulty.
And/or limited use of pronoun and verb endings.

There are few spelling errors however they do not interfere with the ability to understand the story.
