Cell Model/Diagram Project
Students will build a creative 3D model of EITHER a plant OR animal cell that accurately represents the full function of the cell. This model should be made from materials found at home, not necessarily bought. For example, a large jelly bean might be the perfect mitochondria. Be creative! Be thorough! All parts of the cell must be represented, labeled, and explained in a key. The function for each organelle must be explained. DO NOT SUBIT A CELL MADE OF FOOD!

Cell Structure

Must include representations of ALL cell organelles applicable to which cell chosen to represent.

Not Proficient

Inaccurate representation. Not all cell parts are represented and/or are not a representaion of its part.
Basic

Representation of cell not fully accurate. Not all cell parts are represented or are not clearly represented.
Proficient

Mostly accurate representation of cell . Cell parts are clear and all represented
Advanced

Highly accurate representation of cell. Cell parts are very clearly and accurately represented. Specialized organelles not taught included.
Labels

All cell parts must be labeled with a number that corresponds with a number in the table.

Not Proficient

Little or no labels. Numerous errors in cell part labeling.
Basic

Missing labels or more than two spelling errors in labels of cell parts.
Proficient

All parts are labeled appropriately with no more than two spelling errors in labels of cell parts.
Advanced

All parts are labeled accurately with correct spellings in labels of cell parts.
Functions

The correct function of the organelle explained with labeling key.

Not Proficient

Inaccurate or no functions. Many spelling errors. Unable to read written definitions. Functions from glossary.
Basic

Missing functions or more than three errors in definitions of cell parts. May be hard to read due to messiness. Functions from glossary.
Proficient

All definitions are present and correct with no more than three spelling errors in the definitions of cell parts. Functions in your own words and clearly stated.
Advanced

All definitions are present and correct with no more than one spelling error in the definitions of cell parts. Functions in your own words and clearly stated. Connections to other functions present.
Neatness

Make sure there are no smudges. All organelles are neatly done.

Not Proficient

Very messy. Numerous smudges on project. Most pieces attached improperly and/or falling off. Labels are messy and difficult to read.
Basic

Somewhat neat. Some effort in presentation and labels, but still some areas that are smudged and/or unattached. Labels are fairly neatly written.
Proficient

Neatly attached and labeled. Few smudges on paper, and all pieces securely glued down.
Advanced

Extremely neatly attached and labeled. Much effort and pride in presentation. Above and beyond expectations.
Creativity

Project must be colorful, creatively represented, and produced with innovative materials.

Not Proficient

Little creativity seen in design. Problems with planning and organization. Poor use of materials/spance.
Basic

Shows some creativity in design. Use of materials show signs of planning and organization.
Proficient

Creative use of materials that show very good planning, organization, and hard work.
Advanced

Extremely creative design. Clever use of materials, well organized, and clear connection of material to representation of organelle.
Effort

Work to be completed at home and NOT the night before.

Not Proficient

Very little effort put into project. Evident that work was rushed.
Basic

Some signs of effort shown. Slightly more evidence that work was planned.
Proficient

Effort was put forth. Clear evidence that great work was put into the model. Model not messy.
Advanced

Went above and beyond expectations. Model is neat and organized. Obvious effort to produce a meaningful representation of chosen cell.
