Ethos	Poor No ethos was established.	Fair 1-2 moments of debate established ethos for the audience.	Good Several credible sources were referenced and the speaker established ethos within his/her execution.	Excellent The groups went above and beyond to establish ethos through several sources and appeared credible during their entire execution, establishing ethos which supported the team as a whole.
Pathos	Poor No pathos was established.	Fair 1-2 moments of debate established pathos for the audience.	Good Several phrases and techniques were used to pique the audience's emotional interest.	Excellent The groups went above and beyond to establish pathos through rhetorical questions, the use of "you" or "we", and played on the audiences emotions to evoke sympathy, empathy, and in some cases, effective outrage.
Logos	Poor No logos was established.	Fair 1-2 moments of debate established logos for the audience.	Good Several specific sources were utilized for the greater overall effect of the argument by establishing logos for the audience.	Excellent The logos used in the argument left no doubt in the audience's view that the team had the research necessary to fully support their argument and easily triumph, making the presence of ethos and pathos almost unnecessary.
Counter Argument	Poor The opposing team's argument was not addressed.	Fair The team mentioned the opposing team's argument 1-2 times during debate.	Good The team continuously mentioned the other team's arguments, to the advantage of their own team.	Excellent The team continuously mentioned the other team's arguments, to the advantage of their own team and effectively dismantled the opposing team's arguments by predicting it and weakening it.
Execution	Poor The team did not appear prepared and no evidence of practice was displayed during the debate.	Fair The team seemed somewhat prepared and at least one speaker was clearly prepared.	Good The team had clearly prepared as they had well researched points, clear goals, and seemed well-rehearsed in its delivery.	Excellent The team's speakers were well-rehearsed, eloquent, and supported by thorough research. There was no rushing or unnecessary pausing in their presentation of arguments.
