Lead	Exceeds requirements The LEAD organizes and describes the 5 W's+H with skill and clarity that show mastery beyond what we learned in class. OR Creative Feature Lead with nutgraph by 3rd paragraph	Meets requirements The lead contains all 5 W's+H Limited to 30 words. Or Feature Lead with nutgraph following	Below requirements The lead tells less than 4 W's/H (May exceed 30 words) OR attempts feature lead. Nut graph may be too far into story	Needs imporovement The lead does not address 5W's/H and exceeds 50 words. OR Does not provide a nutgraph
Body	Exceeds requirements The article's body develops the story in a way that shows mastery beyond what we learned in class.	Meets requirements The article's body clearly and accurately develops the facts established in the lead/nut graph. Information is organized from most-important to least-important.	Below requirements The article's body attempts to develop the facts established in the lead/nut graph, but the facts are not clearly described.	Needs imporovement The article's body does not develop the facts established in the lead/nut graph, or develops the facts in a way that is confusing or inappropriate for a news article.
News style	Exceeds requirements The article correctly and uses news style (LQTQ) in a creative way that shows mastery of inverted pyramid style beyond what we studied in class.	Meets requirements The article is written in appropriately short paragraphs. The article uses vocabulary that is appropriate for news style: --based on observable fact --simple --avoids statements of opinion	Below requirements The article has some paragraphs of appropriate length, but some paragraphs are overly long. The article uses some vocabulary that is appropriate for news style: May be somewhat wordy, confusing or subjective	Needs imporovement The article is written in overly long paragraphs, or has no paragraphing at all.The article uses mostly vocabulary that is inappropriate for news style.
