Needs Work Missing/uninviting lead and thesis statement. Background information is weak.
Body	Excellent Successfully includes a topic sentence for each paragraph. Each trait is supported by several relevant text based details and are thoroughly explained.	Adequate Attempts to include a topic sentence for each paragraph. Each trait is supported by some relevant text based details and demonstrates a literal explanation of the text.	Fair Includes a weak topic sentence for each paragraph. Each trait is supported by few vague or unrelated text based details and demonstrates a limited understanding and/or misunderstanding of the text.	Needs Work Topic sentence is missing and evidence and examples are NOT relevant and/or not explained clearly.
Conclusion	Excellent The conclusion is strong and brings an ending to what is written.	Adequate The conclusion is recognizable and adequately brings an end to what is written.	Fair The conclusion is weak or does not bring an ending to what is written.	Needs Work There is no conclusion.
