Beginning of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify how the story began, but is incorrect.	Devloping Student can give 1 detail from the beginning of the story, but does not state the key point, or what the problem is.	Applying Student identifies key elements of the beginning of the story, including the problem or situation.
Middle of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify events from the middle of story, but is unable to correctly do so.	Devloping Student can give 1 event from the middle of story, but leaves out the key point(s), or what the character(s) is doing to solve the problem.	Applying Student identifies key elements from the middle of the story.
End of story	Emerging Student attempts to identify events from the end of story, but is unable to do so.	Devloping Student can give 1 event from the end of story, but leave out key point.	Applying Student identifies key elements from the end of the story.
Setting	Emerging Student attempts to provide setting, but in unable to provide even one correct component.	Devloping Student can provide 1 element of the setting.	Applying Student can provide details of the setting, where and when.
Character	Emerging Student tries but is unable to name a character from the story.	Devloping Student can name one or more characters from the story, but cannot state who the main character(s) is.	Applying Student can identify the main character(s) and supporting characters that are important to the story
