Performance Assessment 
On the Job Instructors (OTJI) is responsible for ensuring that training meets the needs of the learner. This Rubric will help the OTJI identify and apply some adult learning principles.

Emotional Factors

Give the adult learners the opportunity to feel emotionally safe in an environment where they can try new things.
Avoid talking down to adults and putting them in situations where they will be embarrassed.

Non-Performance

Student was unable to create an emotionally safe environment for the adult learners. Ex: did not allow sufficient response time and called on individuals by name, which could be an embarrassing situation.
Below Expectations

Students identified and applied some of the emotional factors Students need to work on creating an emotionally safe environment for the adult learners.
Basic

Students used two or less Emotional Factors and displayed basic understanding of content.
Proficient

Student was fair in exhibiting adult learning principles but missed some opportunities to show their complete understanding of how to apply the learning principle technique.
Distinguished

Students executed their presentation by applying all of the adult learning principles and shows a good understanding of adult learning techniques. Avoided using embarrassing/self-incriminating questions.
Intellectual Factors

Adult learners learn best when they are actively involved. Minimize lectures and allow students to maximize their learning by doing.

Non-Performance

Students did not engage the learners and there was more lecture than involvement. Ex. Did not encourage learners to participate.
Below Expectations

Students used mostly lecture and very little involvement from the learners. Did not utilize non-threatening techniques to encourage participation.
Basic

Student used two or less Intellectual Factors and displayed basic understanding of content.
Proficient

Student still used more lecture rather than allowing the learners to engage. Did not utilize open ended questioning to involve the learners.
Distinguished

Students actively engaged their learners and maximize their involvement by allowing the learners to actively participate. Ex: group discussions and activities.
Physical Factors

Make sure the environment is comfortable for adults such as having adequate lighting, noise control, and comfortable temperatures.

Non-Performance

Students failed to provide a comfortable atmosphere for the learners. For example, temperature too hot/cold and lighting insufficient.
Below Expectations

Very few adjustments were made to make the learners comfortable. Learners still were meet with some uncomfortableness in the environment.
Basic

Student used two or less Physical Factors and only displayed basic to no understanding of content.
Proficient

Overall, the physical environment was comfortable. Still room for improvement. Ex: better chairs, better lighting.
Distinguished

Students ensured the learning environment was a friendly and comfortable environment for learners to concentrate on learning instead of their surroundings.
