Scenes & Essence
pts

Make sure to include scenes that are relevant to the novel, but don't spend too much time focusing on each scene. Remember: it is a trailer, not a whole movie.

N/A

Scenes are chosen appropriately. They are short and filled with text or action, or other relevant moments from the novel. Symbol and essence is clear.
10 points
N/A

Scenes are chosen appropriately for the most part, with novel's essence basically captured. A few scenes might not be relevant to capturing the essence of the novel, or symbol may be questionable.
8 points
N/A

Scenes chosen do not add to trailer and are weak. Symbol scene is off or missing. Many clips are lengthy or lack any connection to the novel's essence.
6 points
N/A

No clear connection at all to the movie trailer scenes and the essence of what the author was trying to say.
0 points
Titles & Text (must have some)
pts

Titles & text are a must have because, depending on how you use them, they can add more information or suspense to the trailer.

N/A

Titles and text add something special to the trailer, and do not detract from overall trailer. Diction was crisp, clever, and appropriate with clear links to the novel. Names are included.
9 points
N/A

Titles and text lack in a few places, but overall, they do not greatly detract from the trailer.
Diction of text was fair but could use more sophistication. Names not included. Less than 3 capitalization/punctuation/spelling/grammar errors.
7 points
N/A

Titles and text detract from trailer, as they add little to nothing to the overall trailer. They may be too long or poorly written and lack a clear connection to the novel. Names not included. More than 3 capitalization/punctuation/spelling/grammar errors.
5 points
N/A

Little Text. Poorly composed/filled with capitalization/punctuation/spelling/grammar errors. Names not included.
0 points
Sound (must have music)
pts

Sound can also contribute information or suspense. You can add a haunting French lullaby in the background while the mob storms the Bastille, or you can mix audio of a bustling restaurant while filming the Defarges' in their wine-shop, just to name a few examples of what you could do.

N/A

Musical background was great with clear match to novel's essence. Sound created suspense, was not overpowering. Voices could be heard.
8 points
N/A

Voices and music were basically a good match to the novel. Some sounds may have been hard to hear or overpowering.
6 points
N/A

Music did not fit/sound and voices were impossible to hear.
4 points
N/A

No music or impossible sound quality.
0 points
Time (60-90 seconds)
pts

Since it is a trailer and not a movie, please keep your trailer within the time limits.

N/A

Length of trailer meets minimum requirement. (1:00 1:45)
10 points
N/A

Length of trailer does not meet minimum/maximum requirement but is in the ballpark (no less than 55 seconds, no more than 1:50).
8 points
N/A

Length of trailer does not meet minimum requirement by a significant margin. (More or less than 10 seconds.)
6 points
N/A

Length of trailer does not meet minimum/maximum requirements by a significant amount (less than 50 seconds, more than 1:50).
0 points
Storyboard/Planning
pts

For your storyboard, there is a link in the instructions for a website where you can digitally storyboard your trailer. Although, if you prefer to use posterboard, paper, and markers, that is fine.
Make sure to illustrate the rough idea you have for your trailer and go frame by frame.

N/A

Storyboard illustrates the video presentation structure with sketches of each scene. Proposed dialogue and shots are included. All sketches are in a logical order and match the finished project exclusively.
10 points
N/A

Storyboard illustrates the video presentation with some sketches of each scene. Some proposed dialogue or shots are included. Some of the sketches are in order and match the finished project.
8 points
N/A

Storyboard lacks the video presentation and includes little to no sketches of scenes. None of the scenes are in logical order and follow the finished project. No dialogue or shots included.
6 points
N/A

No storyboard or planning were shown to me.

0 points
Group Dynamics/Planning
pts

There will be 4 groups of 2, and 1 group of 3. Please communicate with each other and contribute equally.

N/A

You seemed to work well together. Your trailer looks like you all contributed effectively. knew your roles and planned it out. Everyone had a share.
10 points
N/A

Overall it looks like your group worked together on this, but some evidence that you had a breakdown in group dynamics exists. Did someone get left out?
8 points
N/A

Your film did not seem to have a sense of teamwork. Either one person did too much or maybe one or two people didn't pull their share. It didn't seem to come together well.
6 points
N/A

This looks like it was one person's project or even too few in the group knew what was going on. No organization.
0 points
Characters
pts

Remember: you need to include at least 6 of the 13 main characters. To make each character distinct/easy to identify, you can have your characters wear certain costumes, you can include dialogue from the book that includes the characters' names, you can include text that says who is who. It is all up to your imagination.

N/A

Characters are easily identifiable (whether it be by costume, acting, the texts, etc.). There is no confusion over which character is which.
8 points
N/A

Characters are mostly identifiable. There was a little confusion, but it was eventually understood.
6 points
N/A

Characters are somewhat identifiable. There are several characters who show no distinction between them.
4 points
N/A

None of the characters are easy to identify. There is no difference between them.
0 points
*Bonus Points* Costumes
pts

I will not force you all to wear costumes, but they would be helpful for the sake of telling a good story. The costumes do not need to be period-accurate, but please do your best if you choose to wear costumes.

N/A

Costumes show obvious effort and are even period-appropriate, such as wigs, makeup (on both the men and women, since that was the custom at the time), poofy dresses, buckled shoes, and the like.
8 points
N/A

Costumes are not period appropriate, but do show some effort, such as wigs, some dresses, makeup and on the women, and some button shirts and long coats for the men.
6 points
N/A

Costumes are half-hearted. There are no obvious costumes, except a few wigs and/or some makeup.
3 points
N/A

Costumes are not present within the trailer.
