Action Research Minimum requirements: Action research papers submitted for a score must include the following components in order to attain a score of “Commendable” or “Outstanding.” Introduction with research question Review of Literature Design of the Study (methods) Findings (results) Discussion Correctly formatted reference list matches in-text citations

Introduction/Research Question 20 pts	Beginning Introduction does not serve to introduce the study. The research question is difficult to investigate.	Developing Introduction serves to orient the reader to the topic. Research question is adequate.	Accomplished Introduction clearly serves to orient reader to question being studied. Research question lends itself to action research.	Exemplary Introduction is superior, interest of reader is hooked. Research question is succinct and able to be investigated.
Litertature Review 30 pts	Beginning Literature review is unclear and not related to research question.	Developing Literature review relates to research question and has at least 3 primary sources cited.	Accomplished Literature review relates to research question and has five primary sources cited.	Exemplary Literature review relates to research question and five or more primary sources are cited.
Methodology 20 pts Describe the setting, participants, procedures (and intervention if appropriate). All instruments are included.	Beginning A weak description of the method is provided.	Developing A rudimentary description of the participants, sampling and controls for bias, and validity are provided.	Accomplished The reader has an understanding of the method to include sampling, participants, bias, and validity. Data analysis is clearly explained.	Exemplary The reader understands the participants, sampling, bias and validity. Data Analysis is clearly explained. The trustworthiness of the study is evident.
Findings 60 pts Or Results if quantitative	Beginning The results section is not supported by the data.	Developing Major themes identified are not supported by the data.	Accomplished One or more themes are identified by the researcher and are clearly supported by the data.	Exemplary Two or more themes are identified by the researcher. Strong support is provided by the researcher.
Action Plan 50 pts Discussion, implications, limitations	Beginning The implications suggested are not supported by the data.	Developing The researcher's suggestions are weakly supported by the results.	Accomplished The researcher's discussion, plan, or implications are based on the case and supported by the results.	Exemplary The researcher's discussion, plan, or implications are based on strong evidence from the case.
APA references/grammar/style 20 pts	Beginning The writing is weak. Numerous citations for statements are not included in the report or are cited in the wrong style. Numerous grammar errors are present in the paper.	Developing The writing is developing in tone and clarity. Formatting problems exist, but for the most part references are available and in the proper format.	Accomplished The writing and grammar are consistent with standards expected of graduate students. There are only one or two errors in formatting and reference use.	Exemplary The references were all included in the proper format. Additionally, the writing and grammar for the paper are exemplary.
