Design of atom
5 pts

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

Atom is not accurate in terms of number of sub-atomic particles. Atom model has many design flaws. Choice of materials does not suit model.
Good

Atom is accurate but lacks some information. Atom model has some design flaws. Choice of materials is appropriate for model.
Excellent

Atom is accurate and student has included all required information. Atom model is neat and well designed. Choice of materials is well suited for model.
Creativity
5 pts

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

Project appears forced, hard to follow.
It appears to have too many parts that are strange and do not serve any purpose.
Good

Project is nice, but it is not unique.
It has many similar components as other models.
Excellent

Project is unique, and sets itself apart from the others. The project shows creativity that is exciting and fresh.
Color
1 pts

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

The student has no color at all in the project.
Good

The student has color in the project but has failed to color-code protons and neutrons correctly.
Excellent

All parts of the project are correct and complete. The project has adequate color, and all parts are color-coded accordingly.
Labeling
1 pts

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

The student failed to label the protons and neutrons in the atom model.
Good

The student made an attempt to label prontons and neutrons in the atom, but labels were not clear.
Excellent

All parts of the atom were labeled correctly.
Effort
4 pts

Poor

Student failed to complete an atom model.
Fair

The project look as if it lacks significant effort. The project still needs quite a bit of work and does not appear complete. Many errors are evident in the work.
Good

The project looks like parts of it were thrown together in a rush. The project appears to be mostly done; although, it could use some minor touch up here and there.
Excellent

The project clearly shows that much effort was put forth and the project appears complete.
Notecard
1 pts

Poor

There was not a notecard to accompany the student model at all.
Fair
Good

The notecard was present with some labeled information, but not all. Parts that were missing may have included:
Name of the element, chemical symbol, atomic number, and its use.
Excellent

The notecard was present and complete. All required components were included on the notecard: the Name of the element, chemical symbol, atomic number, and its use.
Presentation
1 pts

Poor

Student could not present his or her atom to the class.
Fair
Good

Student presented his or her atom to the class, but was missing few key components, such as: a common use for the element, atomic number, element name, element symbol, # of protons, # of neutrons.
Excellent

Student presented all components of the project to the class with ease and confidence.
