Epic Hero Project

After reading about epic heroes and learning about the archetypal hero's journey, students were to create a project in which they applied their knowledge of the hero's journey as they created an original hero and archetypal journey.

Content	Exemplary Stages and steps of the hero's journey are accurately applied to their hero. Knowledge of the archetypal hero is clearly evident and uniquely applied.	Proficient Most stages and steps of the hero's journey are accurately applied to their hero. Good knowledge of the archetypal hero is evident and some is uniquely applied.	Improving Some stages and steps of the hero's journey are accurately applied to their hero. Some knowledge of the archetypal hero is evident and has been applied, but is not unique.	Developing Stages and steps of the hero's journey are weakly applied to their hero. Little knowledge of the hero is evident. May confuse an epic hero with a superhero.	Struggling Stages and steps of the hero's journey are inaccurately applied to the hero. Shows little and confusing knowledge of an epic hero.
Traits	Exemplary The traits of the epic hero are clearly and accurately demonstrated in the presentation.	Proficient The traits of the epic hero are presented although not as clearly as could be.	Improving Few of the traits are included and it is not clear which ones are included with the looking at the planning sheet.	Developing Traits are missing or confused in the final project and the planning sheet is needed for reference when looking at the project.	Struggling The hero exhibits no traits that are part of an epic hero
Archetypes	Exemplary Archetypes are clearly and accurately represented in the presentation. Student has a definite understanding of archetypes and tries to use ones beyond the obvious of hero and journey/quest.	Proficient Archetypes are represented in the presentation but the student may default to common ones like hero and journey/quest	Improving Archetypes are weakly represented and/or the student may only use one or two instead of three. Student uses typical archetypes like hero and journey or quest	Developing Student only uses one archetype or uses them incorrectly and does not have a clear understanding of archetypes.
