Fair

Thesis is related to the topic, but is too broad or too narrow. Thesis can not be realistically researched with available resources. Thesis may be basic enough to be easily answered with general background resources instead of requiring deeper investigation.
Poor

Thesis is inadequate or insufficiently connected to the topic. Student chooses a report topic rather than a thesis that can be easily addressed with a web search.

Student articulates thesis adequately. The question may possibly be addressed within the time allotted, utilizing the available resources
Fair

Student struggles to articulate athesis that realistically can be addressed withing the time allotted, requires too many or too few resources.
Poor

Student fails to articulate an acceptable thesis.
Clarity

State the thesis clearly and succinctly.

Excellent

The thesis is focused with a clear direction to well developed argument or stance with supporting resources and defined audience.
Good

The thesis is present and is stated with adequate demonstration of sufficient background knowledge, indication of developed argument or stance with supporting resources and defined audience.

The thesis present but does not demonstrate sufficient background or understanding of the issue to provide direction to argument or stance with supporting resources. Audience may be present but vague or poorly deffined

The thesis is inadequate in demonstrating insufficient knowledge, inadequate direction to argument or stance and/or no audience indicated or defined.
