Q4 Persuasive Speech 
Students will research, plan, and compose a speech in which their performance will be evaluated in terms of specific standards set in class, including the clarity and completeness of your speech and the quality of your presentation in explaining your topic matter. Non-verbal communication is highlighted. Students will have 6 to 8 minutes to deliver the speech.

There appears to be no clear structure of thoughts. Introduction, Body or conclusion is missing. Ideas lack direction. Transitions are awkward and/or non-existent.
Fair

Logical progression of thoughts, but transitions are awkward. An attempt at structure is present, but can be illogical or inconsistent. A major portion of either the introduction, body or conclusion is disjointed or missing.
Good

Ideas flow smoothly from introduction to conclusion. Transitions are generally effective. Some transitions could be clearer, but generally comprehensible.
Excellent

Thoughts are clearly organized, developed, and supported to achieve the purpose. Transitions are effectively utilized to create a smooth transition from point to point.
Delivery

Poor

Monotone and/or mumbling. Not effective in maintaining the audience's attention. No eye contact. Significant extra movement, slouched, hands behind back or lacking in enthusiasm, volume, pitch, and/or rate.
Fair

Some vocal expression, but lacking in enthusiasm, volume, pitch, and/or rate. Student slumped on podium or had unnecessary movement. Limited eye contact with audience.
Good

Good vocal expression including appropriate volume, pitch, and rate. Feet were planted in one location for the majority of the speech.
Excellent

Excellent vocal expression including appropriate variance in volume, pitch, and rate. Enthusiatic about topic -- persuades others to see their point of view.
Content

Poor

Little or no grasp of the information. Support material may be inaccurate, inappropriate, and/or too general. No support material.
Fair

Content is accurate, but does not demonstrate depth, development, or complete understanding. Maintains topic briefly. Overly brief support material.
Good

Demonstrates a clear understanding of the topic and it's significance. Generally effective transitions but support material lacks in originality, relevancy and/or thought. Support material doesn't add to comprehension.
Excellent

Demontrates complete understanding of topic and uses effective transitions. Offers explanations and insights to enhance understanding. Facts support perspective of speaker. Support material displays original, relevant, and logical thought.
Language

Poor

Stumbling, lost place and similar distractions detracted from quality of speech.
Fair

Student spoke without vocal variety and/or with difficulty keeping an appropriate rate of speech. Occasional stumbling or lack of vocal variety.
Good

Student spoke clearly, with minor stumbling and consistent use of vocal variety.
Excellent

Meets criteria for good, while incorporating creative use of language, such as metaphors, similes, analogies, etc.
Time

Poor

Speech is over or short more than one minute.
Fair

Speech is nearly a minute over or short of time.
Good

Speech is over or short time less than one minute.
Excellent

Speech is completed within 6-8 minute time window.
