ORGANIZATION ORGANIZATION refers to the internal structure of the paper. THINK: beginning, middle, end; organizing, grouping, and sequencing.	3 The organization enhances and showcases the central idea of theme. The order, structure, or presentation of information is compelling and moves the reader through the text.	MEETS EXPECTATIONS The organizational structure is strong enough to move the reader through the text without too much confusion.	BELOW EXPECTATIONS The writing lacks a clear sense of direction. Ideas, details, or events seem strung together in a loose or random fashion; there is no identifiable internal structure.	POINTS EARNED
SENTENCE FLUENCY SENTENCE FLUENCY refers to the rhythm and flow of the language- how it plays to the ear. THINK: sentence sense, natural flow of language, and varying lengths and structures of sentences.	3 The writer has an easy flow, rhythm, and cadence. Sentences are well-built, with strong and varied structures that invite expressive oral reading.	MEETS EXPECTATIONS The text hums along with a steady beat but tends to be more pleasant or businesslike than musical. Word Choice WORD CHOICE refers to the writer's ability to create a mental picture for the reader through precise language. THINK: new words, vivid verbs, specific nouns, and accurate, energetic, and varied modifiers.	3 Words convey the intended message in a precise, interesting, and natural way.
