Model Rocket Rubric Model Rocket Rubric Students will construct a model rocket and be graded on the construction, launch, craftsmanship, and completion of the project. Rubric Code: K2344XB By mcutting Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Science Type: Project Grade Levels: 9-12

Model Rocket
	Good 5 pts	Fair 3 pts	Poor 1 pts
Construction	Good The fins are lined up perfectly. The fins (if wood) are sanded and rounded. The nose cone is not painted so it sticks. The launch lug is straight and strongly attached.	Fair Overall this rocket looks solid. Fins might not be sanded.	Poor The rocket is built poorly. Directions were not followed. Parts were missing or not attached correctly. The engine block might be missing or not in the right spot.
Launch/ Parachute deployment	Good The rocket fly straight up and as high as the engine would take it. The parachute came out and was attached so the rocket didn't crash.	Fair The parachute came out, but might have burned off so it fell separate. The rocket flew kind of crazy because my fins might not have been on right or the launch pad might have been at an angle.	Poor I couldn't get my rocket to launch at all! It wasn't ready or I had the igniting wire connected wrong.
Craftsmanship	Good If it wasn't already colored, I painted it. If it had decals, I added them. The rocket looks very neat. It does not have gobs of glue on the sides of fins. It does not have tape holding it together. Everything looks solid.	Fair It looks good overall all but may have a little excess glue on the edges. I did not add decals that came with it.	Poor It is very sloppy or not even painted at all. I had to hold it together with tape and strong glue at the last minute just to fly it.
Completion	Good The student completed the rocket and all required pieces are properly attached.	Fair The student completed the rocket and piece are attached but may not be secure.	Poor The student failed to complete the rocket.
Safety	Good The student was very safe while constructing and launching rocket.	Fair The student was somewhat safe while constructing and launching rocket.	Poor The student was unsafe either during construction or launching of rocket
