4-6 Complete Sentences.

Mechanics

Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation.

Requirements

First sentence is their thesis statement showing a point of view on their topic. Followed by their three supporting details.

Good

Student has clearly stated their thesis in the first sentence. Followed by their three supporting points that are each their own complete sentence. There is no other unnecessary information found.
Fair

Student has written their thesis with three supporting points, however it is somewhat unclear such as what are the exact three points or their three supporting points do not all support the thesis.
Poor

Intro is very unclear as to what their thesis or supporting points are.

Supporting detail and evidence are connected to thesis.

Focus

Paragraph is focused and organized on supporting thesis.

Paragraph is laser focused on supporting the thesis, by stating the supporting point, supporting with evidence, and connecting it to the thesis.

Paragraph is somewhat focused. Student may be missing a clear supporting point, evidence, or connecting it back to the thesis.
Poor

Paragraph is not focused or organized in any way.
Source Referenced

A source has been referred to in the paragraph. Such as "In a letter written by Captain Lewis"

Good

Student has clearly referenced a source for evidence and has tied it into their paragraph.
Fair

Student has referenced a source.
Poor

Conclusion Criteria

Re-state Thesis

Final Thoughts

Last point to make, wrap up any loose ends from the paper.
