Students prepared a presentation about three of the most important people in their lives. The presentation was spoken in front of the class, and each person had a minimum of 30 seconds or 6 sentences, and memorizing the presentation was required. To make it engaging, students also prepared a "visual" for each person about whom they spoke (i.e. pictures, personal mementos, etc.)

Completion & Effort

SENSACIONAL!

Speaker exceeds or fulfills the requirements by speaking fully detailed sentences in the target language and has put care and effort into the process. The speaker presents 6 sentences OR 30 seconds about each of the 3 people.
BRAVO!

Speaker included somewhat detailed sentences. The presentation is generally logical. There are 3/3 of the required people, but 1 or more of the 3 people's information was less than 30 seconds/6 sentences.
BIEN

Speaker has included some or a few detailed sentences, but left out key components of the assignment: i.e. there are only 2 people presented, or the presentation is far below 1.5 minutes long.
POBRE

Speaker has not included any detail and it is evident that little preparation was made. 1 person was presented, and/or the presentation was less than 30 seconds long.
Pronunciation

SENSACIONAL!

Reader can always understand what the speaker is trying to communicate. There is a genuine effort to sound like a native speaker.
BRAVO!

Speaker can understand most of what the speaker is trying to communicate. Generally correct, with occasional errors.
BIEN

Speaker can understand less than half of what speaker is trying to communicate and must rely on interpretation. Many errors interfere with comprehensibility.
POBRE

Incomprehensible throughout presentation. Many utterances are incomprehensible.
Grammar/Syntax/Vocabulary

SENSACIONAL!

Wide range of vocabulary is used. The response is interesting, even though the speaker may follow a pattern between the three people. There are no grammatical errors or problems with syntax.
BRAVO!

Good, appropriate vocabulary, but follows a very rigid pattern that makes the response less interesting. Two or fewer grammar/syntax errors OR that do not impede communication.
BIEN

Vocabulary is basic, and the response is essentially the same for each person. Many errors in basic structures that impede communication.
POBRE

Sentences are only one or two words in length, and student cannot communicate his/her ideas because of a lack of vocabulary and/or preparation of complete sentences.
Fluency/Flow of Speech

SENSACIONAL!

Smooth flow, quick and continuous, with natural pauses.
BRAVO!

Occasional hesitation, searching for words, but the speaker can self-correct and respond to cues.
BIEN

Halting, hesitating; visibly translating before responding. May eventually re-phrase and speak, but searches for words for lengths of time before speaking.
POBRE

Constant searching for words, cannot communicate ideas at all.
Visual

SENSACIONAL!

There was a visual (personal memento, photo, etc.) to accompany each person presented.
BRAVO!

There was a visual (personal memento, photo, etc.) to accompany 2 of the 3 people presented.
BIEN

There was a visual (personal memento, photo, etc.) to accompany only 1 of the 3 people presented.
POBRE

There were no visuals to accompany any of the people presented.
