Correct parts of staff	E Student has included all of the parts of the staff including clef sign, time signature, and bar lines.	M Student has made an attempt to include most of the parts of the staff.	W Student has included some of the parts of the staff.	N Student has made little or no attempt to include any of the parts of the staff.
Melody	E Student has written a melody that is clearly related to the Theme.	M Student has made an attempt to write a melody that is clearly related to the Theme.	W Student has written a nice melody that has only passing relation to the Theme.	N Student has written a poor melody or one that has no relation to the Theme.
Rhythm	E Student used only rhythms that were given by instructor and used them in a varied way. There are no rhythmic errors in the composition.	M Student used specified rhythms but had rhythmic errors in the composition.	W Student did not use specified rhythms or may have used them incorrectly.	N Student did not make an attempt to use any right rhythms in any sort of correct order.
Pitch	E Pitches chosen fit perfectly within the style of the variation. Pitches are notated correctly.	M Pitches mostly suit the style of the variation with minimal errors in the notation.
