Capitalization & Punctuation Uses correct capitalization and punctuation skills.	Unacceptable Does not use correct capitalization and punctuation skills.	Needs Improvement Uses some capitalization and punctuation.	Meets Standard Uses correct capitalization and punctuation most of the time.	Exemplary Uses correct capitalization and punctuation all of the time.
Usage of Appropriate Vocabulary Story contains the usage of the vocabulary words.	Unacceptable There are none of the vocabulary words used in the story.	Needs Improvement There are only 1-2 of the vocabulary words used in the story.	Meets Standard There are only 3-4 of the vocabulary words used in the story.	Exemplary All of the vocabulary words were used in the story and one or more of the words were included more than once.
Paragraph Parameters Minimum of 2 paragraphs with at least three sentences each.	Unacceptable There is only one paragraph that contains less than six sentences.	Needs Improvement There is one paragraph with more than six sentences or two or more paragraphs with one or two sentences each.	Meets Standard There are two paragraphs with three sentences each.	Exemplary There are two or more paragraphs with three or more sentences.
Spelling High frequency words are spelled correctly	Unacceptable Multiple spelling errors make the story impossible to understand.
