Persuasive Essay

Student persuasive essay that uses facts to back up their argument. TEK-ELA 4.19 Students will write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. 4.19A Students will write persuasive essays for appropriate audiences that establish a position and use supporting details.

Arguments	1 The student lists reasons but does not back up with facts or other support.	2 The student uses some facts to support the argument, but they are not used the entire time. The facts are disputed and may not be accurate.	3 The student bases all their arguments on facts that they have researched. The facts are reliable and are used to back up the argument that the student has made.
Organization	1 The student doe not have the 3 paragraphs that were part of the directions.	2 The student has the 3 paragraphs, but the student does not properly introduce or conclude the argument.	3 The student uses 3 short paragraphs and introduces the arguments and provides detailed examples.
Introduction Paragraph	1 The student does not have the three parts of the introduction.	2 The student gives his or her position on the topic, but did not have an attention grabber. The student did not follow directions when writing the introduction paragraph.	3 The student has the three parts of the introduction including:<BR> -attention grabber<BR> -position statement<BR> -lead up to reasons without giving them away.
Conclusion Paragraph	1 The student does not use the main idea to bring their paper to a close.	2 The student uses the main idea to end the paper, but did not restate the ideas and creatively call for action or change.	3 The student restates the main ideas of their essay, called for action or change, and brought their paper to a natural close.
Conventions	1 The student sometimes uses correct grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation.	2 The student mostly uses correct grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation.	3 The student consistently uses correct grammar, spelling, capitalization and punctuation.
