Topic; Sentences

Journal writing is not always easy! 1. Take your time to think about the journal and form complete sentences.
2. Sentences like, "It was really cool," don't count!
3. Unless otherwise instructed, each journal needs to be at least 5 sentences.

Outstanding- Level 4

Good ideas are given and sticks to topic.

Sentences are not cliche (like..."It was fun," or "I liked it.")

Capitalization/Punctuation

Remember to use capital letters in the right places... and to use punctuation that you know such as periods, exclamation marks, and question marks.

Needs Work- Level 2

5-6 errors in capitalization and punctuation.

Spelling

Spelling will count for words you should know, such as word wall words.

Presentation

While journals do not have to be your best work, they do have to be presentable!

Neatness

Think about these things:
Is there enough space between each word?
Did you use the lines on the page?

Outstanding- Level 4

You obviously took your time and wrote neatly; I can easily read your entire journal!
Good- Level 3

Were you in a hurry? Your writing looks a bit rushed. I found it difficult to read your journal in a few places.
Needs Work- Level 2

Your writing is messy. You obviously finished in a hurry and I find it difficult to read your journal in many places.
Poor- Level 1

Your journal is very difficult to read in most places. Please rewrite and hand in again.
